Spy Pics: 2020 Renault Kwid Facelift Spotted Testing

French carmaker Renault launched the entry-level Kwid hatchback in India in 2015. Now, the facelifted version of the Kwid has been spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its expected debut either later this year or at next year's Auto Expo by Bike Advice.

The prototype spotted by the publication was being tested on the Pune-Bangalore highway. The car seen near the city of Pune, features a new grille which looks like the one found on the K-ZE electric car that was recently unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The facelifted Kwid hatchback's grille features some rather thick horizontal slats.

Also seen on the facelifted prototype is the same split headlight design seen on the electric K-ZE with the daytime running lights up top and the regular lights in a separate section on the front bumper. The other sections of the prototype including the sides and the rear end of the car underneath the camouflaged body panels look to be very similar to the ones found on the current car. However, the protoype does seem to be slightly larger in size compared to the current car, which should hopefully translate into more space on the inside of the entry level hatchback.

The interiors of the facelifted Kwid are also expected to borrow cues from the K-ZE all electric hatchback. The Renault K-ZE seen at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show sported quite a bit of kit on the inside with rear air conditioning vents, automatic climate control, along with a different infotainment display and new instrument cluster. While the automatic climate control system and the new instrument cluster do seem a bit far fetched for the new Kwid, a new infotainment display and A/C vents for the rear passengers would be welcome additions to the Kwid.

The slightly bigger body seen above will sit on an updated version of Renault CMF-A platform. The CMF-A platform will be updated to meet the more stringent safety norms that will come into effect in the coming months. Underneath the bonnet of the Kwid, Renault is expected to slot in BS-VI compliant engines. However, it is still unclear if both the 800cc and 1.0-litre engines will be upgraded to meet the more stringent BS-VI emission norms.
