2019 Maruti Suzuki Celerio Gets Dual Front Airbags & More Safety Features As Standard Equipment
Maruti Suzuki sells the most number of cars in India. It has been at the top spot for ages now and no other manufacturer has been able to dethrone it. This is partly because of the nature of Maruti Suzuki's cars.
Maruti Suzuki has crowded the hatchback segment with different products that often overlap each other and this way, Maruti Suzuki gets to have the cake and eat it too. More than 5 of the top-ten best-selling cars in India are from the Maruti Suzuki stable and that is pretty commendable.
However, the company has in recent times been drawing flak from critics, claiming that its cars are not safe enough and are unstable. Maruti Suzuki is on a roll to increase the safety features in its cars and the latest model to receive an update in terms of safety is, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
The government had set up strict crash-test regulations and October 2019 was given as a deadline for all cars on sale in India to comply with the regulations. Way ahead of schedule, Maruti Suzuki announced in July 2018, that nine of the fifteen cars it had on sale was compliant with the safety norms for frontal impact, off-set frontal impact and side impact.
The Celerio was one of the nine cars. It is nearly impossible for cars like the Maruti Suzuki Omni and Maruti Gypsy to be compliant with modern safety standards and hence the models were phased out.
Now, the company has further updated the Celerio for the 2019 model year and this time, it is just safety features that have been added to the hatchback. All variants of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio now come fitted with ABS, dual front airbags, seatbelt reminder for front passengers and a speed warning system as standard.
The safety only increases as one goes higher up the variant line-up. Other than these feature additions, there are no mechanical or aesthetic changes to the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Celerio. It is still powered by the same 998cc, inline-three-cylinder K10B petrol engine with a maximum power output of 67bhp and a peak torque output of 90Nm.
Gearbox options include a five-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT, with most customers preferring the AMT-driven variants. There is also a CNG-fueled variant that is aimed fair and square at fleet operators and independent taxi drivers. The interior and exterior too do not see any other changes.
Thoughts On 2019 Maruti Suzuki Celerio With More Safety Features
The Celerio is one of the best-selling cars for Maruti Suzuki and one of the most versatile too. It is much-loved for its AMT gearbox and peppy 1.0-litre engine. Now with the addition of several safety features as standard equipment, we expect a growth in its sales figures.
