Vroom Drag Meet 2018 — Results And Highlights

The fourth edition of the Vroom Drag Meet was held at Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited (TAAL) near Hosur on October 27-28, 2018. It was an action-packed two days with superbikes, supercars and a lot of Indian cars and bikes putting up a show on the 2.25-kilometre runway.

Drag racing is a form of motorsport in which participants have to complete a quarter-mile track (402-metres). The rider or the driver with the fastest time will be declared as the winner. In Vroom Drag Meet, the competitors were given two runs (practice included) to complete the quarter-mile.

Day 1 of Vroom witnessed the two-stroke and four-stroke bikes burning the rubber. It was a hot day and the conditions were perfect for the bikes. The practice runs further allowed to get a hang of the track and the machine.

The highlight of day 1 was the two-stroke bikes. The two-stroke category was spread across several classes ranging from up to 130cc to 350cc. In the 350cc-and-above two-stroke category, Kaleem Pasha set the pace at 13.155 seconds, while Attaulla Baig (13.168) and Mujahid Pasha (13.253) finished in second and third places, respectively.

From the results of both days (including Open category from Day 2), Attaulla Baig was the overall fastest rider in the two-stroke class (upto 350cc).

Another prominent attraction of day 1 was the Bullet and the classic Jawa and Yezdi bikes. The retro-bikes created a nostalgic feeling as they completed the drag run with the typical exhaust note. Asif set the fastest time in the Bullet class while the Jawa/Yezdi class victory went to Maqsood Baig, followed by his brother, Mansoor Baig.

Day 2 of the Vroom Drag Meet was even more exciting with the participation of superbikes and a whole variety of cars. Motorsports enthusiasts were eager to see the litre-class superbikes and iconic supercars ripping the quarter-mile track. The spectators were not disappointed, either.

The superbikes category was spread across several classes ranging from 551cc to 1050cc, and above. The overall victory was won and the fastest time (10.664 seconds) was set by Hemanth Mudappa of Mantra Racing, on his Suzuki Hayabusa.

In the cars category, the line-up included Indian cars such as the Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Octavia, Honda City, Maruti Esteem and Maruti Zen. In the four-wheeler category, Jeevan Chengappa was the fastest in the Indian Cars class. D Ashwin drove the fastest diesel car of the entire eventwhile Yajur Miglani finished first in the Unrestricted class.

Vroom 2018 also saw some really interesting cars on the track. For instance, the TechArt GT Street R (based on the 991.2 Porsche 911 Turbo S) was easily the fastest four-wheeler at the event and left the crowd shocked after it beat a Nissan GT-R. The rest of the supercar line-up included the Audi R8, Audi RS7, Audi S6 and Porsche 981 Cayman S, to name a few.

The fourth edition of Vroom Drag Meet succeeded in thrilling motorsport and drag racing enthusiasts, yet again. The event saw some of the best in terms of automotive engineering and driving skills, in both two-wheeler and four-wheeler category.
