Volkswagen Jetta And Beetle Discontinued
Volkswagen Jetta and Beetle discontinued in India. The carmaker has removed both the Jetta sedan and the Beetle premium hatchback from its Indian website.
The reason behind the discontinuation of the VW Jetta and the VW Beetle comes in the backdrop of lower demand in India.
While the Beetle was not able to create a brand for itself in the Indian market, the Jetta was not able to keep up with its competition. Both the vehicles might not be replaced anytime sooner.
The new VW Beetle was first launched globally back in 2010, but wasn't able to keep up with the iconic status of the original Beetle. The new Beetle was launched in India in 2015 and commanded a massive price tag of Rs 28.73 lakh ex-showroom (Mumbai).
Volkswagen has discontinued the older PQ35 platform globally and could be the reason behind the carmaker to axe the Beetle. VW has not confirmed any plans to continue the production of the Beetle.

As for the VW Jetta, the sixth-generation model was launched in 2010 and the shared the same platform as the Beetle. While its rivals such as the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra received significant upgrades, the Jetta received very few updates.
The sales of the new Volkswagen Jetta dropped in the recent years with only 29 units sold in 2017 in India. Volkswagen was slow to upgrade their product lineup in india compared to its competition.
Volkswagen has revealed the all-new Jetta and is set to go into production for the international markets. However, it may not come to India anytime soon. The all-new Jetta is based on the carmaker's new MQB platform, which is not manufactured in India.
To manufacture or assemble the new Jetta based on the MQB platform, the carmaker will have to upgrade its production facility in India. Also, increased taxes on importing cars will make the VW Jetta quite expensive.

Volkswagen is working on a new platform ‘ECO' with its sister firm Skoda exclusively for India. This platform will be employed Volkswagen new-generation cars such as the Polo, Vento as well as Skoda's product lineup in India.
We hope VW will bring the Jetta back to the Indian market based on the new platform, but it's not going to be anytime sooner.
