Volkswagen Golf GTD Spotted In India: A black Volkswagen Golf GTD has been spotted in the busy traffic of Bangalore, India. The GTD is a diesel-powered hot hatch version of the popular Golf hatchback. First introduced in 1974, the Volkswagen Golf is an iconic model for the German brand and sits above the Polo.

The images show the Volkswagen Golf GTD being tested on public roads without any camouflage. The car even had ‘KA' temporary number plates. While testing new models on public roads, manufacturers often cover the body with misleading paint works and would also remove all badges.

At the rear, the car was carrying an emission-testing device. Believed to be a Bosch diesel-testing apparatus, the system could be collecting vehicular emission data for research purposes. In fact, Bosch is working on reducing nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines.

Volkswagen India has not shared any official statements regarding the GTD's Indian debut. But since there is a growing demand for mid-range performance cars in India, chances for the GTD to be launched are not less.

However, this car could also be a test mule of Bosch and Volkswagen India might have nothing to do with it.

Based on the brand's MQB platform, the Golf GTD is available in both 3-door and 5-door formats in international markets. The car gets full-LED headlamps and taillamps and rides on 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

Other features include heated front seats, ambient illumination, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, dual zone climate control and host of driving and safety aids.

The Volkswagen Polo GTD is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 181bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels.

If launched, the prices will be in the range of Rs 27 – 30 lakh ex-showroom. Volkswagen India currently sells only one performance hatchback in India – the Polo GTi.

However, if launched in limited numbers, there will surely be some potential buyers in the country. After all, the ‘Volkswagen Golf' tag has been a favourite among car enthusiasts since a very long time.
