Tata Nano Electric aka Jayem Neo EV Spotted — The Latest Addition To The Ola Cabs Fleet
The Tata Motors Nano electric version aka the Jayem Neo EV has been spotted in an undisclosed parking lot in Hyderabad. The electric Nano wore the decals and graphics of Ola Cabs – one of the leading taxi services in India. The latest entrant in the Ola Cab fleet also has a prominent 'Electric Vehicle' tag on its side.
Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives first showcased the Neo EV at Auto Expo 2018. The car is manufactured under a joint-venture with Tata Motors and will be initially offered only in the fleet market; Ola Cabs being the one to get the first 200 units.
As per the agreement, Tata Motors will be supplying body shells of the Nano (i.e. without engine and transmission) to Jayem Automotives, who in turn adds a 48V electric motor and the drive system. The motor, supplied by Electra EV, is capable of making 17kW or 23bhp.
Electra EV makes the drivetrain components for the Tata Tigor EV. This electric sedan was also showcased at Auto Expo 2018 and is not a mass-production vehicle.
The electric avatar of the Nano does not carry any ‘Tata' badges, but only ‘Jayem' and ‘Neo' logos. Apart from that, there are no aesthetic changes between the Neo EV and the regular Nano.
Jayem Automotives are also responsible for the upcoming performance models from Tata, dubbed as the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP. While no official launch details of the JTP products have been shared by Tata, the Tiago JTP was spotted testing on public roads, recently.
The Tata JTP (Jayem Tata Performance) models are two of the most-anticipated launches from the brand this year. The cars come only with a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 109bhp and 150Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Thoughts On The Tata Nano Electric Aka Jayem Neo EV
The Jayem Neo EV is one of the many electric vehicles to come to the Indian market. The idea of an electric Nano has always been interesting and a few people in India have even gone to make their own version of Nano EVs. In addition to this, reports also suggest that Tata Motors is currently working on an electric Nano with their branding.
