Tata H5X To Be Named As Tata Harrier — Launch In 2019
Tata Motors revealed the H5X concept SUV at the Auto Expo 2018 and has been testing the vehicle on Indian roads for quite some time. Now, Autocar India reports that the production version of the Tata H5X SUV will be named as Tata Harrier. Tata Motors is likely to make an official statement to announce the same.
Harrier is not a unique name for a vehicle, Toyota already retails a mid-size SUV named as Harrier in the global market. But Tata Motors will not have an issue with that as the Toyota Harrier is sold in markets such as Japan and Malaysia.
Tata Motors is likely to launch the H5X SUV in the first half of 2019 and before that, the company is strengthening its sales network. Tata Motors is also expected to revamp its dealerships to offer a premium experience to the potential customers of the H5X and for the upcoming premium products.
The Tata H5X will also debut Tata Motors' Impact Design 2.0 design philosophy and the production version of the SUV will sport a similar design to the concept model. The Tata H5X SUV has been spotted on Indian roads and the latest spy pics revealed the production design elements.
The Tata H5X is underpinned by the Land Rover Discovery Sport's platform but Tata Motors will tweak the platform to suit the Indian conditions and keep the costs down. The Tata H5X or the Harrier will be offered in five-seater and seven-seater configurations. The seven-seater model is expected to be launched at a later phase.
The Tata H5X is likely to draw power from a Fiat-sourced 2-litre diesel engine producing around 140-170bhp. The engine will be paired to a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Jeep Compass also utilises the same engine. Tata Motors might also introduce the petrol variant of the SUV at a later stage.
Thoughts On The Production Name Of Tata H5X SUV
Tata Motors has named the H5X SUV as Harrier and the SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2019. The Harrier is a unique name for an SUV and it suits the overall design of the H5X. When launched in India, the Tata Harrier will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass.
