The Tata Harrier is the production variant of the H5X concept and was unveiled at Auto Expo 2018. The concept features a cutting-edge design, unlike any other Tata product. Tata has confirmed that almost 80% of the components seen in the concept will go to the production variant.
if rumours are correct, the Tata Harrier will be launched by mid-2019 and will be offered in two variants. Rumours also suggest that the two variants will carry different names; one obviously being 'Harrier'. That said, here are the top features of Tata H5X on which the SUV is based!
The H5X concept features sleek angular headlamps and tail lamps, an embossing skid-plate and muscular fenders. The wheels are massive at 22-inches. Of course, being a concept, all the visual details have been greatly exaggerated.
Impact Design 2.0
Starting with the looks, the H5X Concept features Tata's latest design philosophy, Impact Design 2.0. The same philosophy will apply to all the upcoming Tata cars and commercial vehicles.
The main elements in Impact Design 2.0, will be bigger wheels, prominent fenders, the three-dimensional ‘humanity line' which embodies the headlamp and the grille, and an uncluttered interior and exterior.
Land Rover Platform
The new H5X concept is based on Tata's monocoque chassis architecture, ‘Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA)'. The architecture was developed along with Land Rover and is based on their legendary LR4 chassis.
The same chassis is also the base for the Land Rover Discovery Sport. However, the engine will be from Tata Motors only, and not the 2-litre unit from Land Rover.
Luxurious And Modern Interiors
The Tata H5X concept has a stunning interior, with touchscreen HD-displays everywhere, and almost zero buttons. The same layout has been observed in the recently-launched Land Rover Range Rover Velar. The gear lever has been replaced by a rotary knob. The steering wheel has also got illuminated infographics, rather than buttons, which probably come with haptic feedback.
Wood, leather, and metallic-painted plastic further improve the overall looks of the cabin. A champagne bottle and two glasses on the rear central console, gives a luxury vibe to the concept. But it is obvious that the production version will not feature any of these added touches.
Since the world has already started attaining connected technologies in most sectors including automobiles, the premium Tata H5X is also expected to host some connectivity features. The large screens and haptic touchpads, should have to do something with connected devices. The SUV will probably get a native smartphone app to monitor its stats.
Included in the design language, almost everywhere on the Tata H5X, you will find details in the form of a ‘tri-arrow'. The grille section, fog lamp housing, wheels, taillamps, and even on the roof, some form of a tri-arrow element or decal exists.
Thoughts On The Tata H5X Top Features
The Tata H5X is just a preview of the brand's exciting upcoming products. The new exterior design language and the modern and luxurious interiors give an insight into what is to be expected from future Tata products. Once Tata Motors launches the Harrier, the brand will definitely step up in terms of competition.
