Tata EVision Electric Sedan Concept — What’s So Special About Tata’s New Electric Concept?

The Tata EVision concept is based on a new platform architecture. The 'OMEGA' architecture will serve as a base for all future electric Tata models. Meanwhile, the regular models from Tata Motors including hatchbacks, sedans and small SUVs will be based either on ‘Alfa' or AMP platform. OMEGA stands for Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced.

OMEGA platform will feature electric cars which are or more than 4.3 metres in length. The same platform also underpins the Tata H5X SUV concept. OMEGA has been derived from Land Rover's D8 platform.

Impact Design 2.0

Tata introduced their new design philosophy, the Impact Design, with the Tiago. The Tata EVision concept features the advanced form of the design language, dubbed the ‘Impact Design 2.0'. Tata has already showcased two other concepts with the same new design philosophy at the Auto Expo 2018: The H5X SUV and the 45X hatchback.

The Tata EVision concept could be an insight into the most premium Tata ever to come out of production. Also worth mentioning is the brushed Aluminium ‘Humanity Line' that runs around the car.

Premium Features

The Tata EVision concept features frameless doors. Though we are not sure if they will make it into production, they surely add to the premium character of the concept. The concept features bold lines and embossing fenders. In addition to this, the Tata EVision sits on large 21-inch wheels, which one can be sure that they won't see production.

The saloon also sports a glass roof with some unique design patterns.

Upmarket Interiors

The dashboard of the Tata EVision concept features a combination of leather and wood. The instrument cluster is TFT. There is a thin strip at the centre, which seems to show the navigation. The 3-spoke steering wheel is leather wrapped and gets metal and wooden detailing, along with some controls.

The Tata EVision comes equipped with assist features such as Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), HMI (Human-Machine Interface), drive analytics, geospatial navigation among others. The systems can be accessed from a retracting TFT display on the dashboard.

The rear passengers get a tablet display, foldable into the central armrests. The door handles have been finished in wood.

Thoughts On The Tata EVision Electric Sedan Concept Features

The Tata EVision electric concept gives an insight into what future Tata models would be like. The sedan looks nothing like a typical Tata. The dimensions of the Tata EVision is close to something like a BMW 3 Series or a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. If Tata retains some of the design traits and features of the EVision in the production variant, we can expect an Indian premium saloon, ready to compete with the foreign players.
