Suzuki Vitara Spotted Testing In India; Expected Launch, Price, Specs And Features
Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce the Vitara SUV in India.
We have already reported about Maruti Suzuki planning to expand its utility vehicle portfolio in India. The company leads the compact SUV segment in the country with the Vitara Brezza. Now, TeamBHP has spotted the new Suzuki Vitara testing in India.
The new Suzuki Vitara is over 4-metre and has larger proportions as compared to the Vitara Brezza. The styling is also different with the Vitara getting a more butch look. Overall, the Vitara is much bigger and aggressive as compared to the currently sold Vitara Brezza.
The Suzuki Vitara spotted in India is finished in Turquoise metallic colour and the Suzuki insignia has been masked. The SUVs registration number reveals that the Vitara is registered under Maruti Suzuki India. This indicates that Maruti will launch the Vitara in India.

The Suzuki Vitara features chrome grille, fog lamps and LED daytime running lights at the front. The SUV also gets plastic body cladding running across the body which adds to the rugged look of the Vitara. The Suzuki Vitara is equipped with 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The Suzuki Vitara is already on sale in European markets and is offered in both petrol and diesel variants. The India-spec petrol variant of the Vitara is likely to draw power from a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine producing 140bhp and 230Nm of torque.
The diesel variant of the Vitara is expected to utilise the 1.6-litre Fiat Multijet turbocharged engine producing 120bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional automatic gearbox.
Previously, Maruti Suzuki used to sell the old-gen Grand Vitara in the Indian market and in 2015 the SUV was discontinued in the country. Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed about the launch of the new Vitara in India, but we expect the SUV to hit the Indian shore in 2019.
Thoughts On The Suzuki Vitara SUV
Maruti Suzuki is looking to strengthen its position in the utility vehicle segment in the Indian market and is looking to introduce the Vitara in the country. The Vitara will be slotted above the S-Cross and will carry a price tag of around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom. The Suzuki Vitara will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500.
