Skoda has released teaser images of the upcoming Kodiaq RS ahead of its global debut. The Skoda Kodiaq RS will be globally unveiled at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, to be held in October.
The Czech carmaker has unveiled two teaser images of the Kodiaq RS. The Kodiaq will be the first SUV offering from the company to be part of the Skoda RS Portfolio.
The Skoda Kodiaq will also debut a new and updated RS badge, with the ‘v' tag. The ‘v' tag stands for victory, while the red colour symbolises the sportiness and the power of the RS family.
The Skoda Kodiaq RS comes with an all-new engine. The new engine is said to be the most powerful diesel engine in Skoda's 120-year history.
This power unit comes in the form of a 2.0-litre TDI bi-turbo diesel engine, producing 237bhp and 500Nm of peak torque. The engine is further mated to a dual-clutch gearbox, sending power to all-four-wheels.
The new engine has already proven its prowess. As the Kodiaq RS now holds the track record at the famous Nurburgring circuit.
The Skoda Kodiaq RS is officially the fastest seven-seater SUV to ever go around the 20.8km ‘Green Hell'. The Kodiaq RS timing around the track stands at 9:20.84.
The RS Badge
The ‘RS' badge stands for Rally Sport, first used on the two rally prototypes built by Skoda in 1974; the 180RS and the 200RS. The company then in 1975, developed the prototypes, to build the Skoda 130 RS sports Coupe.
The coupe, also known as the 'Porsche of the East', later went on to achieve a number of victories. The Skoda 130 RS first gained two victories at the legendary Rallye Monte Carlo, while also winning the Acropolis Rally in 1977.
Later in 2000, Skoda launched its first production-spec vehicle with the RS badge; the Octavia RS.
Skoda RS In India
Skoda entered the Indian market back in 2002, with the Octavia sedan. The companybrought the vRS version of the Octavia later in 2004. The car instantly became a huge favourite among car enthusiasts in the country.
The Octavia vRS came with a 1.8-litre turbocharged TSI engine. It offered exemplary performance and dynamics with no direct rivals in India.
The company later introduced the Laura vRS (2nd-generation Octavia) in India as well. However, the car failed to carry forward the same dynamics as the previous model.
Skoda launched the third-generation Octavia RS in 2017. The sedan proved to be highly successful, to an extent that Skoda had to stop accepting bookings for the sedan.
However, earlier this year the company re-opened thebookings for the 2018Octavia RS in India.
