Pune Traffic Police Collect Fines Summing Around Rs 22.55 Crore In Just Eight Months
The Pune Traffic Police seems to be very strict when it comes to making the public follow basic traffic rules. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tejaswi Satpute aims to make sure that no individuals escape from facing the consequences if they are found breaking the law.
Now, the department has shared a detailed breakup of the list of violations and their related fines to the public. The total fines sum up to around a whopping Rs 22.55 crore.
Recently, the Pune Traffic Police launched the ‘name and shame' initiative. This involves publishing the names and other details of violators on the department's social media handles. In fact, they have released a list of over 200 ‘top violators' who've ended up in various CCTV footages.
Once caught, the violators will receive e-challans consisting of fines respective of the degree of rule-breaking they've done. They will have to further pay the fine through the department's official website — www.punetrafficcop.net.
To make things interesting, one such violator was caught 32 times while another had a 20-time record. The Pune Police started collecting the traffic violation data from 1st January 2018 to 31st August 2018, between which, a total of 10,18,560 cases were registered.
The fines of these collectively returned a total sum of Rs 22,54,62,250 to the department.
The top violations include signal jumping, cutting zebra-crossing, parking at no-parking areas, riding without a helmet, not wearing seatbelts and using mobile phones while driving/riding. Meanwhile, cutting zebra-crossing alone attracted the highest amount of fine at Rs 6,74,76,800.
Thoughts On The Exorbitant Amount Of Fine Collected By The Pune Traffic Police
By imposing heavy fines on frequent traffic violators, the traffic in Pune is becoming more disciplined, day-by-day. The officials do not seem to show mercy to anyone who breaks the law; be it a person of any public status. We think that such stern measures should be implemented in more places too.
