Nissan To Halt Production Of The Terrano — Kicks SUV To Be The Replacement
Nissan is expected to stop production of their Duster-based SUV, the Terrano in India. The Nissan Terrano was first launched in India, during the early part of 2013 and will now be replaced by the upcoming premium Kicks SUV.
According to Team-BHP, the Japanese car manufacturer has already stopped dispatching the Terrano SUV to their dealerships across the country. The Terrano, based on the more popular Duster from Renault, was expected to bring in good sales for the brand. However, the SUV failed to bring in sales and was never able to achieve the success, similar to the Duster.
Now with the upcoming launch of the Kicks SUV from Nissan, the brand is looking to halt production of the Terrano completely. However, it is yet to be confirmed if the halt in production of the Terrano is a temporary or permanent move from Nissan.
Sales of the Nissan Terrano has been seeing just two-figure sales in the last couple of months, with 65 and 71 units in July and August 2018, respectively.
The Terrano, soon to be replaced by the Kicks SUV comes in three variants: XL, XE and XV. The XL and XE variants come with a 1.5-litre diesel offering producing 85bhp and 200Nm of torque. The XL further comes with an optional 1.6-litre petrol engine, churning out 100bhp and 148Nm of torque.
The top-end XV variant, however, also comes with a single 1.5-litre diesel option in a higher state-of-tune. This produces 110bhp and 245Nm of torque. The XL and the XE further come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard. The XV variant, on the other hand, comes with a with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The upcoming Nissan Kicks SUV will also be part of the same platform in India, as seen on the Terrano and the Duster. This includes the cost-effective B0 platform, which will help the brand place the new SUV competitively in the market.
Thoughts On The Nissan Stopping Production Of The Terrano
The Nissan Terrano hasn't been a popular SUV in India. The car failed to impress in the Indian market, with continues low sales figures. The upcoming Kicks SUVhopes to be a game-changer for the Japanese car manufacturer. The Nissan Kicks will make its Indian debut on the 18th October 2018.
