Nissan Micra Latin NCAP Crash Test Results Revealed
The Latin NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) has revealed the crash test results for the Nissan Micra hatchback. The Nissan Micra which is also known as March in global markets scored a poor rating of one star. The latest crash test was conducted on the previous-gen model which is also sold in India.
In the frontal crash test, the Nissan Micra offered sufficient protection for the neck and head of the driver and passenger. But the chest protection was very poor. The knee protection was also below average and the danger of knee hitting external objects is very high as the body structure of the car is unstable.
During the side impact crash test, the Nissan Micra offered good protection for head and pelvis while the chest protection was again poor. The Nissan Micra comes with dual airbags as standard and misses out on other safety features such as stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The Nissan Micra scored two star in the child protection category as the Child Restraint Systems (CRS) were installed using an adult seatbelt. The adult protection rating for the Micra stands at three star. Previously, in 2016, the Nissan Micra had scored four star in the same category.
The Nissan Micra or the March is manufactured in Mexico and Brazil for the Latin American market. The Latin NCAP has asked Nissan to improve the safety of the Micra hatchback. The Nissan Micra is offered in both petrol and diesel in the Indian market.
The Nissan Micra draws power from a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 76bhp and 104Nm of torque while the diesel engine is good for 63bhp and 160Nm of torque.
The safety features of the India-spec Nissan Micra include dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, automatic headlamps, speed sensing auto door lock, central door locking, and driver seat belt warning indicator.
Thoughts On The Nissan Micra Crash Test
The previous-gen Nissan Micra has undergone the Latin NCAP crash test and has scored a poor one-star rating. The Micra which is also sold in India gets only basic safety features. Nissan should also consider improving the body rigidity of the hatchback. Nissan Micra is one of the affordable hatchbacks in India as it is also offered with a CVT gearbox.
