The new Swift hatchback is based on the HEARTECT platform making the 2018 Swift lighter and safer than the outgoing model.
The new chassis of the Swift is not new to India; the same platform underpins the new Maruti Dzire, Baleno and the upcoming Maruti Ertiga facelift. The Maruti Swift 2018 model is the first launch of the company and will rival the likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai Grand i10, Nissan Micra among others.
The new Maruti Swift is available in both petrol and diesel engine. While the petrol engine will be a 1.2-litre unit that produces 83bhp and 140Nm of torque, the diesel engine is a 1.3-litre unit developing 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the option of the 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox.
