2018 Mini Countryman Launched In India At Rs 34.9 Lakh — Rivals The Entry-Level German SUVs
All-new Mini Countryman launched in India: BMW Group has launched the new 2018 Mini Countryman in India at a starting price of Rs 34.9 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The new Mini Countryman was first showcased in India at Auto Expo 2018.
Mini has already started production of the Countryman in BMW's plant in Chennai. The company has already started bookings across all their dealerships in India. Deliveries of the new Mini Countryman will begin from June.
The new Mini Countryman will be available in three variants: Cooper* S, Cooper S JCW Inspired and Cooper SD.
*As confusing as it is, the Countryman variants are called 'Cooper'.
Variants | Price |
Cooper S (Petrol) | Rs 34.9 Lakh |
Cooper SD (Diesel) | Rs 37.4 Lakh |
Cooper S JCW Inspired (Petrol) | Rs 41.4 Lakh |
All the above prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).
Both the Mini Countryman Cooper S and the Cooper JCW Inspired (white car) variants will be powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 190bhp with 280Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the diesel Countryman Cooper SD receives a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which churns out 188bhp with 400Nm of torque.
The engines on all the variants come mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The all-new Mini Countryman receives minor interior and exterior changes. Some of the standout features include LED headlamps, LED daytime running lamps (DRL), fog lamps, revamped bumpers, signature chrome grille, skid plates at the front and rear, LED tail lights and dual exhaust pipes.
Inside, the Countryman offers features such as multi-functional steering wheel, sports seat for the front driver and passenger, 8.8-inch state-of-the-art iDrive infotainment, two-zone automatic air-conditioning and sports leather steering wheel among others.
The 2018 Mini Countryman will take on rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.
Thoughts On The New 2018 Mini Countryman Launch In India
While the Mini Cooper is a fun car that offers a go-kart-like driving experience, the Countryman showcases a more practical approach. Another interesting fact is that the new Mini Countryman rivals the BMW X1; the entry-level premium SUV which it is based on. The Countryman is also not a proper SUV, but a crossover, ideal for those looking forward to buying a compact yet spacious premium car.
Which Mini do you like more? The fun Cooper or the practical Countryman?
