Honda has recalled the new Amaze in India over power steering issue. The new Honda Amaze was launched in the Indian market in May 2018 with a starting price of 5.59 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). Now, within three months the manufacturer has issued a recall for the compact sedan.

Honda has recalled the new Amaze to inspect the EPS (Electric-Assist Power Steering) Sensor Harness and a total of 7,290 units of Amaze have been affected by this recall. The new Amaze manufactured between April 17, 2018, to May 24, 2018, are said to be affected by this issue. The dealerships will fix the issue free of cost if the part is found faulty.

Honda states that in some units of the new Honda Amaze, the driver may experience a heavier steering and the EPS indicator will turn on. The company has stated that it will replace the EPS column unit if it is found faulty.

Honda dealerships will begin contacting the affected owners of the new Amaze from July 26, 2018. The owners can also check if their Amaze is affected by the recall by entering the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the official website of Honda.

Honda revealed the new-gen Amaze at the Auto Expo 2018 and launched the compact sedan in May 2018. The Amaze is one of the best-selling compact sedans in the Indian market as the second-gen model comes with an all-new design and several premium features.

The new Honda Amaze draws power from a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 87bhp and 110Nm of torque while the diesel unit churns out 98.6bhp and 200Nm of torque. The petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox.

The diesel engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The diesel engine also gets a CVT gearbox but the power output is slightly reduced and stands at 80bhp and 160Nm of torque. Safety features of the compact sedan include dual airbags and ABS as standard.

Honda has issued a recall for the new Amaze over power steering sensor issue. It is a good move by Honda by voluntarily recalling the affected cars even though it is a minor problem. Currently, India does not have a particular law for recall, but it is good to know that manufacturers are concerned about the safety of the customers.
