The New 2019 Volvo S60 Sports Sedan Unveiled — First Volvo Without A Diesel Offering

Volvo has unveiled its latest 2019 S60 midsize premium sports sedan. The new S60 is the first Volvo car to be offered without a diesel engine.

Volvo Cars have revealed their new midsize premium sedan offering, the S60. The Volvo S60 was unveiled at the company's manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

The new Volvo S60 sedan will be the first car to be sold without a diesel offering. This is the first step towards electrification of their products, as announced earlier.

Hakan Samuelsson, President, Volvo Cars, stated, "The new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvo cars we've ever made."

The new Volvo S60 is part of the company's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform.

The midsize premium sedan offering will also share all the safety technologies from its larger siblings, the top-of-the-line 90 series. This will makes the Volvo S60, one of the safest cars on the road.

Henrik Green, Vice President, R&D, Volvo Cars, added, "The active chassis and drive modes deliver excellent control and an engaged performance that makes this a driver's car."

He further stated, "It also brings the acclaimed technology from our 90 Series and other 60 Series cars into this segment, making it one of the best sports sedans on the market."

The new 2019 Volvo S60 will initially be powered by a turbocharged and super-charged plug-in hybrid petrol engines. The Volvo T6 twin-engine AWD plug-in hybrid will produce a combined power output of 340bhp. While the T8 twin-engine AWD plug-in hybrid churns out 400bhp.

The company is also expected to introduce the T5 and the T6 petrol engines, during the time of launch.

Volvo's electric performance arm, Polestar, will also introduce an electric version S60. This will be based exclusively on the top-of-the-line T8 twin-engine trim.

Polestar will completely re-engineer the T8 model. This includes the wheels, brakes, suspension and the engine control unit. The re-engineered S60 T8 will be expected to produce a combined power output of 415bhp.

The Volvo S60 is 4,761mm long, 2,040mm wide and 1,431mm high. The sedan has a wheelbase of 2,872mm and weighs 1,680kg. Boot space on the new 2019 Volvo S60 is 442 litres.

Coming to the features on the new 2019 Volvo S60, the sedan features: Sensus Connect infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a tablet-style touchscreen interface with car functions, navigation, and in-car entertainment apps.

Driving Assist features on the new S60 sedan include OnRoad Lane and Run-off-Road Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert, Auto brake Technology and the optional Pilot Assist System.

In International market, the Volvo S60 will be available through the company's ‘Care by Volvo' subscription service. This allows people access to the cars, by paying a monthly fee without owning one.
