Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Might Come To India Soon
Mitsubishi is working on introducing the Outlander PHEV in India. The Outlander PHEV will come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Japanese car maker, Mitsubishi is working on bringing the Outlander PHEV to India. According to Autocar India, the company will directly import its plug-in hybrid SUV offering as a CBU unit.
The company is all set to launch its latest generation Outlander in India soon. The PHEV variant of the Outlander SUV is expected to enter the Indian market at a later stage.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV uses a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, along with two electric motors.
The petrol engine produces 118bhp and 186Nm of torque, while the electric motors churn out 82bhp each.
This means the SUV produces a total output of 203bhp from the petrol-electric powertrain. The two motors are individually mounted on the front and rear axles of the SUV.
The electric motors use a 12kW lithium-ion battery, which can be fully charged in six and a half hours. The battery also gets the option of fast-charging. This charges 80 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV gets three driving modes: All Electric, Series Hybrid and Parallel Hybrid.
As the name suggests, the all-electric mode uses just the motors to run the SUV. Mitsubishi claims that the SUV can go up to 50km while reaching a top speed of 120km/h while in this mode.
Series hybrid mode runs on its electric power as well, while the petrol engine continuously charges the batteries.
The Parallel Hybrid, on the other hand, uses the petrol engine, while the electric motors provide assistance.
The company claims a mileage figure of 58km/l on the Outlander PHEV offering.
Apart from the difference in powertrain, the other prominent change is on the interiors. The inside of the Outlander PHEV now seats just five passengers. This is to allow space to carry the lithium-ion batteries.
The fuel capacity of the SUV has also been reduced from 60 to 45 litres, while there is a significant weight increase by upto 260kg on the PHEV version of the SUV.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will receive similar features as the standard SUV offering. This includes seven airbags, hill-start assist and active stability control.
Other features on the PHEV: keyless go, auto headlights and wipers, electric sunroof, cruise control, electric parking brake, leather seats, dual-zone climate control and a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Thoughts On The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV In India
Once launched, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is expected to be priced higher than Rs 35 lakh, ex-showroom. In India, the Outlander PHEV doesn't have any direct rivals in its segment.
