Maruti Brezza Global NCAP Crash Test Results Revealed — Gets An Impressive Four-Star Safety Rating
Maruti Vitara Brezza Crash Test Results: Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) has revealed the crash test or safety rating of the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The compact-SUV from Maruti Suzuki has scored an impressive four-star rating in the Global NCAP safety tests.
The Maruti Brezza was launched back in 2016 at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The sub-four-metre compact-SUV is available only in a diesel format, although a petrol variant is expected to be launched soon.
The Maruti Vitara is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which makes 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or its respective AMT variant, which drives the front wheels.
Coming back to the NCAP safety tests, the Maruti Brezza scored four stars in adult occupant protection and was termed as "good and robust" by the officials. The Maruti Brezza comes with dual airbags, ABS and ISOFIX child seatmounts as standard.
However, in child occupant protection, the Maruti Brezza scored only two stars since the position of the ISOFIX seat mounts were not correct as per the norms put forward by Global NCAP. The low rating came as the result when the test was done with an 18-month-old dummy but improved with that of a three-year-old.
Regarding the Maruti Vitara Brezza crash test results, David Ward, Secretary general of Global NCAP shared, "The four-star result for Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza is really impressive. It demonstrates clearly the safety engineering capabilities of India's leading vehicle manufacturer. It also shows the beneficial effects of the Indian Government's new crash test standards helping to raise levels of vehicle safety. We are getting very close now to seeing India's first five star car."
It was on October 1, 2017, when the government set the new norms for full-frontal impact, offset-frontal impact and side impact resistance for new cars. The norms will come into effect on all cars from October 1, 2019.
Another interesting fact is that the main rival to the Vitara Brezza, the Tata Nexon has also got a four-star-rating in Global NCAP. Unlike the Brezza, the Tata Nexon is available in both petrol and diesel formats, along with an AMT option.
Thoughts On The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
The four-star Global NCAP rating received by the Vitara Brezza is really worth some appreciation. Very few cars in India manage to get a full-star or five-star rating in such crash tests. One such example is the Toyota Yaris which scored a five-star rating in ASEAN NCAP. The Maruti Vitara Brezza is one of the best-selling cars in India and the newly-revealed NCAP safety rating will improve its desirability even further.
