Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport: Expected Launch Date In India, Prices, Specifications, Features & More
With the Suzuki Swift Sport now available in Indian market, it will be interesting to see if Maruti Suzuki gets the offering to India.
The latest generation of the Suzuki Swift Sport was first showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 'hot hatch' is expected to launch in the European markets by spring 2018.
With its expected launch in the international markets soon, we take a deeper look at how it will fare if launched in India.
The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport now offers a lower and more aggressive stance, compared to the standard model. The new Swift Sport measures 3,890mm in length, 1,735mm width and 1,495mm in height.
While the ground clearance is also lower at 120mm from the regular 163mm on the standard model. The wheelbase though remains similar at 2,450mm.
The exterior of the new Suzuki Swift Sport also features certain changes. These variations come in the form of a new striking grille, front bumper and sharp character lines. The Swift Sport also comes with dual exhaust pipes at the rear.
On the inside, the Swift Sport comes with an all-black sporty interior with red inserts. The hot hatch also features semi-bucket seats with red stitching. Stainless Steel pedals further add to the sporty character of the new hot hatch offering from Suzuki.
The sporty hatchback features a dual-tone instrument cluster: Red tachometer and a Dark Silver Speedometer. It also features a central 4.2-inch coloured display and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
The Suzuki Swift Sport comes with the powerful 1.4-litre, four-cylinder BoosterJet petrol engine. This turbocharged engine produces a massive 138bhp @ 5,500rpm and 230Nm of torque between 2,500 to 3,500rpm. The power unit is further mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Suzuki claims a top speed of 210km/h on the new Swift Sport while recording a 0 to 100km/h time of just 8.1 seconds.
Similar to the standard Suzuki Swift, the Sports version is also based on the HEARTECT platform. This helps the Swift Sport to have a low kerb weight at just 970kg.
The hot hatch gets MacPherson Struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. While braking is handled by discs at both, the front and rear.
In India, Maruti Suzuki sells the Baleno RS, which is their closest product resembling a hot hatch. The Baleno RS uses a smaller 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine. This produces 100bhp and 150Nm of torque.
However, the Baleno RS also has a low weight of 950kg, being a part of the same platform as the Swift offerings.
Suzuki Swift Sport In India
Maruti Suzuki India, recently confirmed that the Suzuki Swift Sport will not be launched in India.
The Swift Sport, if launched in India, will be priced at around Rs 20 to 25 lakh, as it will be imported into the country as a CBU kit. With the high import duty and GST rates for CBUs in India, the hatchback would prove to be too expensive for the Indian market.
However, the company is planning on introducing the Swift RS in India. The Swift RS will come with the same 1.0-litre, 103bhp petrol engine as seen on the Baleno RS offering.
Thoughts On The 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport
The Suzuki Swift Sport is available in a number of right-hand drive countries across the globe. However, the car will not enter the Indian market, although, India is one of the biggest markets for the Swift hatchback.
The Baleno RS failed to deliver the level of success, the company hoped the ‘RS' tag would receive in India. The Baleno RS could not offer any competition to its main rival, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and TDI in the country.
