Maruti Y1K Hatchback Launch Confirmed — To Bring Back The Zen Nameplate
Maruti will be launching their all-new hatchback offering, codenamed the YK1 in 2019. The Maruti Y1k might bring back the ‘Zen’ nameplate in India.
Maruti Suzuki will be launching a new hatchback offering, codenamed the Y1K in the Indian market in 2019. The new hatchback will be positioned above their Alto offering and is expected to be introduced sometime during the festive season next year.
According to Economic Times, the Maruti Y1K will be the production version of the Future-S Concept, which was first showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. This suggests that the new hatchback will carry the SUV-like design, similar to its competition, the Renault Kwid.
The Maruti Y1K, placed between the Alto and the Ignis will comprehensively complete the brand's portfolio in the country. Similar to its competition, the Maruti Y1K will be a hatchback, with a crossover-like design. The car is expected to share components with the company's top-sellers, the Alto and the Swift offerings.
The new hatchback is expected to feature the 1.0-litre K10 series engine. However, the engine will be updated to match the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The car will also come with the choice of either a five-speed manual or AMT transmission.
In its current state of tune, the 1.0-litre engine produces 68bhp and 90Nm of torque. The engine has gained a reputation for being a decent performerwhile returning impressive mileage figures.
The new hatchback, the Maruti Y1K will come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and reverse parking sensors as standard. This is to comply with the upcoming safety regulations for all cars sold in the country.
Thoughts On The New Maruti YK1 Hatchback
With Maruti Suzuki's established dealership and service network in the country, the company will price the new hatchback competitively. It is also speculated that the new small car, could bring back the ‘Zen' nameplate in the country. Once launched, the Maruti Y1K will take on the likes of the Renault Kwid, as well as the upcoming hatchback from Hyundai.
