Maruti Electric Car Models From E-Trio Automobiles: Electric Alto And WagonR

Telangana-based start-up, E-Trio Automobiles has developed two electric cars based on the Maruti Alto and WagonR models. Both the Maruti electric cars (Alto and WagonR) come with ARAI-approved retrofit electric parts imported from Korea and China. The controller for which has been developed in-house by E-Trio automobiles.

The company is also the first in India to receive the ARAI approval for their retrofit electric parts. The start-up plans to launch the two Maruti electric cars in the market. They hope to roll out a minimum of 5,000 units initially having a monthly capacity of 1,000 units.

The Maruti electric Alto and WagonR models developed by E-Trio come with an asynchronous AC induction motor with a rating between 10 to 30Kw with high-performance LFP cells.

These batteries can be used for over 3000 cycles with a maximum range of 150km on a single charge. The batteries on the electric cars take a total of five hours for a complete charge. E-trio also offers fast-charging, which brings down the time to just one hour.

Both Maruti electric cars come without any gears, offering the driver a smooth gearless drive. The retrofitted electric Alto and WagonR also claim to be lower on maintenance compared to their IC engine counterparts.

The company has stated that they are working closely with a San-Fransisco based company to offer quicker and error-free rollouts of the two models. Sathya Yalamanchili, CEO & Founder, E-Trio Automobiles, stated that their company's vision is to create e-mobility which nurtures and inspires a pollution free India while contributing towards the government's mission of 100 per cent EV by 2030.

Both, the electric Alto and the WagonR have passed all the safety standards of the regulatory authority. The retro-fitment of these electric parts is said to be quick and easy, however, the cost of the parts is yet to be announced at this stage.

The company also offers a host of new technologies with their retrofit electric parts. These include an advanced intelligent controller, remote diagnostics, digital instrument cluster, regenerative braking, anti-slip control and intelligent battery management.

Thoughts On Maruti Electric Alto And WagonR With Retrofit Parts

Various companies have been working extensively over the past couple of years to introduce electric vehicles in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki themselves are testing out electric versions of the WagonR, scheduled to launch in 2020. However, electric parts retro-fitment is a new step towards electrification of cars in India.
