Maruti Ciaz 2018 Facelift Top Features To Know — New Petrol Engine With SHVS & More

On the mechanical front, the Maruti Ciaz facelift employs a new petrol engine but the same 1.3-litre diesel engine that makes 88bhp and 200Nm of torque. The diesel unit comes mated to a 6-speed manual.

New Petrol Engine

The main highlight of the 2018 Maruti Ciaz is the new K15 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual and has got an optimal balance between performance and fuel efficiency, while also being really refined. We can expect the same unit to power future Maruti models, including the possible Maruti Brezza petrol.

SHVS Technology

SHVS (Small Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) is a mild hybrid unit employing a Lithium-ion and Lead Acid dual battery setup, for efficient engine output. The system will be extended to future Maruti products too and has got three functions:

Idle Start/Stop
The engine automatically stops when it is idle and starts by its own according to the gear and accelerator inputs. This aids a lot in fuel economy.

Brake Energy Regeneration
The system makes use of the brakes and the electric motor. When the brakes are applied, a retarding force acts on the motor and in turn, makes it a generator. The generated energy is stored in the Li-ion battery.

Torque Assist Function
The electric motor, using the energy stored in the Li-ion battery, supplies extra torque to the engine during sudden acceleration. This gives the car more performance without compromising much on fuel efficiency.

Updated Interiors

The interiors of the new Maruti Ciaz have been refreshed and now gets wooden panelling while the previous beige/black dual-tone layout is maintained. There are some subtle chrome highlights too. Overall, the dashboard and door panels look really elegant.
