Mahindra XUV 300 Compact-SUV Now Official — Launch In February 2019
Mahindra XUV 300 compact-SUV officially confirmed for production. Initially called the Mahindra S201, the new XUV 300 is based on the global-spec SsangYong Tivoli. Mahindra aims it to be a strong contender in the compact-SUV market; expected prices being in the range of Rs 10 – 14 lakh ex-showroom.
UPDATE: Mahindra Automotive has launched the XUV300 at a compelling starting price of Rs 7.90 lakh ex-showroom (India) — click here to know all the details (including variant-wise pricing).
Prior to the name unveiling and launch of the Mahindra XUV 300 (first-half of February 2019), the new compact-SUV has been undergoing extensive road tests. We have also managed to spot a couple of Mahindra S201 test mules recently; in fact, all the variants together.
Till date, nobody has managed to spot an uncamouflaged image of the new XUV 300, even though some have seen the SsangYong Tivoli. This meant that the Mahindra XUV 300 would be styled and equipped quite differently compared to the Tivoli, and the fact was proved true as you can see.
The new Mahindra XUV 300 is one of the two SsangYong products rebadged for the Indian market; the other one being the flagship Alturas G4. We have already driven the Mahindra Alturas G4 — read our detailed review.
On the features front, the XUV 300 will offer enough and more to stand apart in its segment. Projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a large touchscreen infotainment system, all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags and a host of other safety aids will be part of the package — giving even the upcoming Tata Harrier(different segment) some challenge.
The all-new Mahindra XUV 300 is expected to come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine; first introduced in the Marazzo MPV. In the Mahindra Marazzo, the engine makes 121bhp and 320Nm of torque, while coming mated to a six-speed manual.
In the XUV 300, the engine output could be slightly varied to suit the character of the vehicle. Though the exact specifications are not clear at this point, there will be a petrol-powered Mahindra XUV 300 (maybe even an automatic variant) as well.
As mentioned before, the Mahindra XUV 300 will compete in the compact-SUV segment in India. This makes it a strong rival to the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta and the all-new Nissan Kicks we drove recently; the last two being above four metres in length.
Thoughts On The New Mahindra XUV 300
We had shared earlier that there is a high chance for the Mahindra S201 compact-SUV to be named as the XUV 300. We were indeed right and the XUV 300 will be a serious contender to the popular names of the compact-SUV segment. What do you think of the new Mahindra XUV 300?
