Mahindra is planning to discontinue sales of their Verito and Verito Vibe offerings in India. As part of a new strategy, Mahindra plans to establish themselves as a utility vehicle manufacturer.

According to Autocar India, Mahindra is planning to adopt a new concept, called the 'World of SUVs' across all its dealerships. The company will start renovating their dealerships, to reflect the new theme.

The Mahindra Verito and the Verito Vibe, being the only non-utility vehicles in the company's line-up will, therefore, be phased-out. The company also does not have any plans of renewing the two cars for the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.

Rajan Wadhera, president, Mahindra, Automotive Division, stated, "That was a product we came up with a long time ago and over a period of time it will fade away."

Pawan Goenka, MD & CEO, Mahindra, further added, "In the future, our product portfolio will be BS-VI-compliant, which means we can discontinue the low-volume products. Other than that, the Verito has moved towards the e-platform and so the conventional products may not go beyond the BS-VI timeline."

With the demand for SUVs steadily increasing, Mahindra is expected to concentrate their sales in this segment. Recently, Mahindra also announced their tie-up with Italian design house, Pininfarina. While also stating their plans to build high-end cars under the Pininfarina brand.

The Verito was the successor to the Mahindra-Renault alliance project, the Logan. The sales of the Verito, over time, saw a drastic drop by almost 77 per cent. The car sold 721 units in the last fiscal year, compared to 3,316 units in FY 2017. In the first three months of the current fiscal year, Mahindra has managed to sell just 207 units of the Verito.

While the Mahindra Verito Vibe; a sub-four metre derivative of the Verito, managed to sell just four units in the last fiscal year. While the FY2018 records zero units of production for the Vibe.

Mahindra is trying to establish itself as the leading brand in the utility vehicles segment. The company already offers a range of products, from the XUV500 to the KUV100. Mahindra is also scheduled to launch two new vehicles in the market soon; the Marazzo and the XUV700. Both of which are expected to launch in India, later this year.
