Mahindra NuvoSport Discontinued — Low Sales To Be Blamed?
Mahindra & Mahindra launched the NuvoSport compact SUV in the country in 2016. The Mahindra NuvoSport replaced the slow-selling Quanto. Now, AutoX reports that the NuvoSport has been discontinued in the Indian market due to the dwindling sales of the compact SUV.
Previously in February, the reports suggested that the NuvoSport was one among the three models to be axed as the company is planning for an upgrade of the slow-selling models. And in the last six months, the NuvoSport managed to record only single-digit sales figures in the country.
When the Mahindra NuvoSport was launched in India, the compact SUV struggled to lure customers and barely managed to sell 300 units a month. And in May 2018, not even a single unit of the NuvoSport was dispatched to the dealerships. It suggests that the NuvoSport has not been produced from the past few months.
Another reason for the dropping sales of the Mahindra NuvoSport was the TUV300. Anybody looking for an affordable Mahindra SUV had an option of TUV300 and this further made the situation worse for the NuvoSport. And due to the dwindling sales, the compact SUV has finally bitten the dust.
The Mahindra NuvoSport draws power from a 1.5-litre mHawk100, three-cylinder diesel engine that produces 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The same engine is also deployed on the TUV300 with the same power figures.
Mahindra is also readying the new sub-four-metre compact SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli and it is codenamed as S201. It could be also one of the reasons for the discontinuation of the NuvoSport. The upcoming Mahindra SUV will take on the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon.
Thoughts On The Discontinuation Of Mahindra NuvoSport
The Mahindra NuvoSport has been finally discontinued from the Indian market due to the poor sales figures. In fact, the SUV registered a sales figure of zero units in the month of May 2018. Now, Mahindra is concentrating on the new premium products which are set to be launched in the near future. We expect the NuvoSport to be replaced by a new -premium compact SUV.
