Mahindra Marazzo aka U321 MPV — Things We Know About The Innova-Rival
Mahindra has officially named their upcoming U321 MPV as 'Marazzo'. The Mahindra Marazzo will be a premium offering from the Indian automotive giant and will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta. The MPV was spotted testing on Indian roads several times prior to its name-unveiling.
That said, here are some things we know about the Mahindra Marazzo!
Shark-Inspired Design
The word, ‘Marazzo' in Basque (a sub-language of Spanish) means ‘shark'. The Mahindra Marazzo features a shark-inspired aesthetic philosophy, crafted with inputs from the Italian design studio – Pininfarina (owned by Mahindra).
The lines on the Mahindra Marazzo, according to the brand, aid a lot in both aesthetics and aerodynamics. The MPV also features a vertical-slat grille, similar to the ones seen on other Mahindra products. The grille on the Marazzo signifies the teeth of a shark as per the brand.
Class-Leading Comfort & Convenience
Mahindra promises excellent riding comfort in their Marazzo MPV. The brand claims that the upcoming Marazzo will offer class-leading NVH controls along with a "plush" riding experience. The MPV will be offered in both seven-seater and eight-seater formats. The seats have got a leatherette trim while the second and third-row seating can be split-folded in 60:40 ratio.
Premium Interiors
The Mahindra Marazzo will host a lot of premium features on the inside. From the various leaked images that have surfaced on the internet in the recent past, the interiors seem to follow a beige theme. The dashboard hosts a piano black centre console and a touchscreen infotainment system.
But the main highlight of the interiors could be the roof-mounted AC vents. The system offers excellent cooling and Mahindra refersto it as an ‘Industry-First Surround Cool Technology'.
Global Product
The Marazzo MPV has been jointly developed by Mahindra North America Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The Mahindra Marazzo is the first product to come out from the American facility. For the same reason, the MPV's build quality is comparable to global standards.
Unique Construction
Unlike the traditional body-on-frame chassis in conventional MPVs and SUVs, the Mahindra Marazzo employs a monocoque construction. A monocoque chassis offers better rigidity and dynamics to the vehicle. The Mahindra Marazzo has also got the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) of any Mahindra product.
Expected Price & Launch Date
Mahindra has not made any statements regarding the price of the Marazzo. However, being a premium offering, we expect it to cost around Rs 10 – 15 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
Mahindra plans to launch the Marazzo before the end of Q2 fiscal 2019 i.e. during this Diwali.
Thoughts On The Upcoming Mahindra Marazzo
The Mahindra Marazzo, being a rival to the Toyota Innova, is definitely an MPV worth considering. Though Mahindra has shared very less about the Marazzo, we expect it to come with quite a lot for its price (of course, only if the brand prices it right).
The Mahindra Marazzo is one of the three new products lined for launch in the near future. Two of them – the S201 and the Marazzo – will be launched before Diwali while the G4 Rexton – the most expensive Mahindra ever – will be available on the market, sometime after Diwali.
