Mahindra Marazzo aka U321 MPV Officially Teased — Rivals The Toyota Innova Crysta
Mahindra Marazzo MPV Officially Teased: Mahindra has officially revealed the name of their premium MPV offering – the Marazzo. Originally codenamed the U321, the MPV was spied several times on our roads, ahead of its official name-unveiling.
The word 'Marazzo' means shark in Basque (a sub-language of Spanish) and denotes the vehicle's claimed shark-inspired design.
Over the past few months, several assumptions have been made about the upcoming Mahindra MPV. At first, the U321 was thought to be a replacement to the now-discontinued Mahindra Xylo. But with time, it was clear that Mahindra was aiming the U321 to be a strong rival to the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Tata Hexa.
The Mahindra Marazzo aka U321 has been developed by the brand's North American Technical Centre, located in Troy, Michigan, in collaboration with Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The Marazzo is also a global product and Mahindra plans to sell it in various foreign markets.
The Mahindra Marazzo will be offered in seven-seater or eight-seater configurations and the seats can be split-folded in 60:40 ratio. The new Marazzo MPV will offer upmarket features and well-appointed interiors including roof-mounted ac vents (Mahindra refers it to as an industry-first surround-cooling technology). Mahindra promises good levels of NVH controls, along with a ‘plush' ride.
The interiors feature a touchscreen infotainment system which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From all the recent spy shots, it is evident that the interiors would follow a beige them, along with a piano black dashboard trim.
The Mahindra Marazzo is expected to come with a 1.6-litre mFalcon diesel engine that makes 125bhp and 305Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. As per rumours, there will also be a petrol option on offer.
Additional equipment includes safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS+EBD, Brake Assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a reverse parking camera. The Mahindra Marazzo is also based on a monocoque chassis unlike the conventional body-on-frame construction of MPVs and SUVs.
It has also got the largest footprint (wheelbase x front track) compared to any other Mahindra product.
The Mahindra Marazzo is expected to be launched this festive season i.e before Diwali. Prices for the production version of the Mahindra U321 MPV could be in the range of Rs 10 – 15 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts On The New Mahindra Marazzo aka U321
Mahindra is aiming big with their new Marazzo MPV – a premium offering to rival the Toyota Innova Crysta. The brand targets large families and businessmen with the new "versatile and exciting" Marazzo. The Mahindra Marazzo will also offer best-in-class comfort and industry-leading build quality. In short, the Marazzo will definitely be a great product in the MPV segment.
