James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 From GoldenEye Is Up For Auction — The Most Expensive Bond Car Ever

Many Aston Martin DB5 cars have been featured in Bond films. But the metallic grey grand tourer is the most popular Aston Martin model in Ian Fleming's James Bond series.

The car got into the minds of fans ever since the first Bond movie, Goldfinger, was released in 1964. Sean Connery played James Bond's role back then. The car has so far appeared in seven Bond movies including the last one – Spectre. Many examples of the DB5 were sold over the years to various parts of the world, through private and public auctions.

The DB5 models in the films were also popular due to the cool weaponry and gadgets it featured. Many replicas of those cars were made and showcased at various automotive shows.

Only 1059 Aston Martin DB5 models were built. Production ranged between 1963 and 1965. The DB5 was powered by a 4.0-litre straight-six engine that made 282bhp and 380Nm of torque; substantially high figures for the time.

The car could hit 100km/h from a standstill in 7.1 seconds. Top speed stood at 228km/h.

The GoldenEye DB5, although not having such ammunition, had a champagne cooler and an in-car fax machine disguised as a CD tuner. In the movie, there is an iconic racing scene between the Aston Martin and a Ferrari F355 GTS.

The very same DB5 was earlier auctioned in 2001 for a then-record amount of 210,600 US dollars (Rs 1.43 crore). The car will be re-unveiled at Bonhams Aston Martin Sale on 2nd June 2018, at Englefield House, Berkshire in the UK. Only then will it be brought to Goodwood.
