India’s First McLaren Leaves India For Better Driving Conditions In Dubai
The first ever McLaren to grace Indian roads has been shipped to Dubai as intended, by its owner Ranjit Sundaramurthy. The McLaren 720S in question was a left-hand-drive supercar and was on carnet.
In August last year, India became one of the few countries to host a McLaren 720S. What made it even more special was the fact that it was the first ever McLaren to grace Indian roads. Well, India's first McLaren is not in India anymore.
The McLaren 720S has been shipped back to Dubai as its owner - Businessman and car enthusiast Ranjit Sundaramurthy first intended. The McLaren 720S in question was a left-hand-drive supercar and was brought to India on carnet.
What
Is
Carnet?
ATA Carnet is an international uniform customs document issued in 77 countries including India that allows for temporary import and export of goods without paying duties and import taxes. This document is valid, based on the condition that the goods in concern would be re-exported in under 12 months.
The McLaren 720S owned by Ranjit Sundaramurthy was registered in Dubai and brought to India with carnet documents. However the businessman did not wait the entire 12-months but re-exported the much-loved supercar in just six-months.
The supercar, decked in Memphis Red was equipped with McLaren's Performance Pack 3, that added a whole lot of carbon fibre body parts to the car than it already had, making it lighter. The interiors too were decked with alcantara, further lightening the supercar.
A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an maximum power output of 710bhp and a peak torque output of 770Nm powers the McLaren 720S. A 7-Speed dual-clutch gearbox transfers the power to the rear wheels.
Performance on the McLaren 720S is high enough to give most other supercars a run for their money. 0-100km/h is covered in just 2.9 seconds and 200km/h comes up in just 4 seconds after that. The supercar has a top speed of around 341km/h.
Why
Was
The
India's
First
McLaren
720S
Shipped
Back
To
Dubai?
The primary reason for it to be shipped back to Dubai is its owner's intentions. Ranjit Sundaramurthy was very clear since the beginning that this supercar wasn't going to stay in India. He is often found saying that these kind of cars cannot be used to their maximum potential in Indian road conditions.
The well-known businessman also owns a Ferrari 488 GTB, Ferrari 458 Italia and a Lamborghini Huracan among other cars, all registered in Bangalore India. The McLaren 720S though was registered in Dubai, and the Ferrari 812 Superfast which he is yet to take delivery of will also be registered in Dubai.
The reason for this is that the businessman himself plans to move to the Arab country soon. Yet another reason for this is that, left-hand-drive cars cannot be registered in India anymore.
DriveSpark Thinks!
India's first McLaren 720S leaving the country is saddening news indeed for supercar lovers and enthusiasts. The hundreds of supercar enthusiasts who chased the car in Bangalore everytime it was out being driven, will surely miss it. However, we can expect frequent updates on the car through Ranjit Sundaramurthy's Instagram page. What would happen to the other supercars owned by him in Bangalore after he moves out, is unknown as of now.
