German automaker Volkswagen has revealed the new T-Cross SUV in Amsterdam. The T-Cross is the first small SUV from the stable of Volkswagen. The Volkswagen T-Cross will be offered in two variants: short wheelbase for the European markets and long wheelbase variant for emerging markets.

On the design front, the Volkswagen T-Cross for the emerging markets gets a slightly tweaked front end. The front end of the T-Cross features wider headlamps that integrate seamlessly with the grille. The grille also gets a thin chrome lining that integrates with the LED DRL. The front bumper also gets chrome and faux aluminium inserts.

The side profile of the Volkswagen T-Cross features black plastic body cladding that runs across the body. The rear end of the SUV gets LED tail light cluster, a light bar running across the tailgate and a muscular bumper. The T-Cross also features roof rails that give a rugged look to the small SUV.

The Euro-spec short-wheelbase version of the T-Cross is based on the MQB A0 platform while the longer wheelbase model for the emerging markets is underpinned by a tweaked version of the MQB A0 platform. The Volkswagen Virtus sedan also makes use of the same platform and the Virtus is said to be the replacement of Vento in the Indian market.

The Volkswagen T-Cross for emerging markets like India, Brazil and China measures 4.19-metres in length, 2.65-metres in wheelbase and 1.56-metres in height. The T-Cross for the emerging markets will have more legroom for the rear passengers and the boot space will also be better than the Euro-spec model.

The interior of the Volkswagen T-Cross is similar to the Virtus sedan with 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient interior lighting, panoramic sunroof and much more. The safety features of the SUV includes six airbags, ABS, ESP and automatic post-collision braking.

The Volkswagen T-Cross draws power from a 1-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that is available in 94bhp or 114bhp power options. The SUV also gets a 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 94bhp. Volkswagen will also introduce a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Transmission options include a 5 or 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

With the ever-growing demand for the SUVs, Volkswagen has revealed the new T-Cross small SUV. The Volkswagen T-Cross is expected to hit the Indian shores in 2020. When launched in India, the Volkswagen T-Cross will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks.
