Hyundai Elantra 2019 Facelift Makes Global Debut — To Rival The Toyota Corolla

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift has been unveiled globally. The premium sedan offering from the company was unveiled during one of the media drives for the new Santa Fe in Utah, USA.

The car was introduced a couple of years ago; with the facelift now featuring a more sharper look, compared to the previous generation. The new 2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift also comes packed with a long list of equipment and features.

At the front, the new Elantra gets some major styling updates. It now features a new headlamp cluster with LED DRLs, a revised front grille, a more muscular-looking bonnet and triangular fog lamps. The side profile remains the same, however, it now features larger 18-inch alloy wheels with a new design.

At the rear, the sedan now gets a tweaked bumper with housings for the reversing lights. The rear of the sedan also features fog lamps, as well as tapering tail-lamps that extend further on to the boot. The license plate has now also been moved down to the rear bumper, to give the Elantra a more clean design.

The Hyundai Elantra facelift also comes with a host of safety features. These include a blind-spot monitoring system, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with active lane control and a rear-view camera with a cross-traffic alert system.

Inside, Hyundai offers the top-end variant of the Elantra with a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the lower variants will carry forward the same seven-inch touchscreen unit, seen in the previous generation models.

The Hyundai Elantra facelift carries forward the same engine options as seen in the previous generation. This includes a 2.0-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engine options. The petrol engine produces 150bhp and 192Nm of torque. While the diesel unit churns out 126bhp with 260Nm of peak torque.

Both engines further come mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Globally, the car is also available with a 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine which pumps out 128bhp and 201bhp respectively.

The Elantra facelift is expected to hit the Indian shores sometime during the second half of 2019. Once launched in India, the Hyundai sedan will go up against the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Jetta.
