Italian supercar marque Ferrari has revealed the 488 Pista, the most powerful V8 supercar to bear the iconic prancing horse badge. The 'Pista' in the name of the newest Ferrari is the Italian word for 'track', and the track-focused Ferrari 488 Pista will make its global debut at the upcoming 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Providing power to the Ferrari 488 Pista is a race-derived version of Ferrari's International Engine of the Year (2016 & 2017) winning 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine.

The new Ferrari 488 Pista's engine borrows the following components from the 488 Challenge race car - titanium conrods, Inconel exhaust manifolds, carbon-fibre intake plenums, lightweight crankshaft & flywheel along with the turbochargers with integrated rev sensors.

Thanks to the added on race tech, the twin-turbo V8 engine of the 488 Pista produces 710bhp @ 8,000rpm and 770Nm of torque @ 3,000rpm which is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The 48bhp and 10Nm increase in comparison to the 488 GTB and the 90-kilo weight loss (the Pista weighs in at 1,280kg dry) mean that the all-new Ferrari 488 Pista sprints out of the blocks like an energizer bunny on steroids. The Ferrari 488 Pista accelerates from 0-100kph in just 2.85 seconds and hits 200kph in 7.6 seconds. The Ferrari Pista's top speed is in excess of 340kph.

The new Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer system uses software to adjust the brake pressure at the callipers which Ferrari claims fine-tunes the 488 Pista's performance through, and while powering out of, corners making the car's handling more predictable.

DriveSpark's Thoughts On The New Ferrari 488 Pista

The Ferrari 488 Pista is the most powerful V8 supercar to exit Maranello's thoroughbred stables and its race-car derived tech show that Ferrari is back in the V8 supercar game to compete with its F1-rival and upstart on the streets - McLaren.

With 710bhp on offer, the new Ferrari 488 Pista makes the same amount of power as the McLaren 720S, which should lead to some rather interesting conversation at the watering holes and interesting battles on the track and street.
