Car Sales Report August 2018: The sales report for cars during the month of August 2018 has been released. The Indian car market, saw quite a bit of fluctuation, especially with the unfortunate flooding in the state of Kerala. However, car companies are working with the state, to bring back normalcy in the market.

Here is the monthly sales report of each of the major car manufacturers in the Indian market, for August 2018.

Maruti Suzuki

The third-largest car manufacturer in Asia, Maruti Suzuki has recorded a reduction in sales in the Indian market.

The company which holds 51 percent of the market share in the country recorded 158,189 units of total sales. This translates to a reduction of 3.4 percent sales, compared to August 2017, where they recorded 163,701 units of total sales.

In the recorded 158,189 unit sales in August 2018, the domestic market recorded 147,700 units. With the remaining 10,489 units being exported. The company stated that the sales were affected mainly due to the severe floods in the state of Kerala. With heavy rains in other parts of the country, also affecting the overall sales.

Mahindra

Car Sales Report August 2018: Maruti Suzuki & Hyundai Record Drop In Domestic Sales

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd registered a growth of 14 percent during the month of August 2018. The company, part of the USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group, recorded sales of 48,324 units. This translates to a 14 percent increase, compared to August 2017 which stood at 42,207 units.

The total domestic sales for Mahindrareached 45,373 units against 39,615 units during the same period last year. This translates to a 15 percent increase in domestic growth. Total exports, on the other hand, also recorded a growth of 14 percent with 2,951 unit of sales in August 2018.

The company recently launched their latest MPV offering in the country, the Marrazzo. Mahindra hopes that the new MPV will help improve their sales, especially during the upcoming festive season.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors continued to their growth during the month of August 2018. The company, registered a total domestic sales of 58,262, compared to 45,906 in August 2017. This translates to a growth of 28 percent in August 2018.

The export market for Tata Motors recorded an impressive 78 percent sales in August 2018. The company sold 5,478 units last month, compared to 3,082 units during the same time last year.

Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors Ltd. stated, "Due to heavy rains across the country and floods in Kerala, the consumer sentiment was muted. Despite a challenging month, we have recorded a growth of 28% year-on-year. The demand for our new generation vehicles has helped us maintain this consistent month on month growth."

Ford India

Ford India registered an overall growth of 31.2 percent in August 2018. The company recorded sales of 20,648 units, compared to 15,740 units in August 2017.

Of this, domestic sales grew from 7,777 unit in August 2017 to 8,042 units in the same month this year. Exports, on the other hand, grew by 58 percent to 12,606 units in August 2018 from 7,963 units during the same period last year.

Ford is now concentrating on customer experience in the Indian market. The company recently announced its decision, not to introduce any new products till 2020. However, the company will increase its sales and service footprint in India.

Ford has already opened a new sales, service and apres outlet in Patna, Bihar. The company has also contributed Rs 1.6 crore towards the flood reliefs in Kerala.

Toyota India

Toyota has also clocked a double-figure sales growth in India. The company registered a 17 percent growth to 14,581 in August 2018 from 13,081 units during the same time last year.

Of this, domestic sales of Toyota accounted for 14,100 units, while exports recorded just 481 unit of sales in August 2018. Domestic sales growth translates to 17 percent. With exports falling by 54 percent.

N Raja, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, stated, "Thanks to the continued support of our valued customers, we have achieved a growth of 17% in sales this month as compared to the same period last year."

He further added, "We deeply regret the flood situation in Kerala and other parts of South India. Despite the impact of the flood condition, we have been able to overcome the challenge with thecomplete support of other dealers across other regions. Kerala is a very important market for us and we will work hard to get this market back to normalcy."

Hyundai Cars India

Hyundai Cars India has registered an overall growth of 3.4 percent in August 2018. The company has recorded sales of 61,912 units during the previous month, compared to 59,905 units during August 2017.

However, domestic sales of Hyundai in India has reduced by 2.8 percent from 47,103 last year to 45,801 in August 2018. Although, the export market has seen an increase of 25 percent. Hyundai Cars India have recorded a sales of 16,111 units for exports in August 2018, compared to 12,802 during the same month last year.

Hyundai India credits the positive sales growth to its three new models, the Grand i10, the new Elite i20 and the latest-generation Creta.

Car sales during the month of August 2018, saw many manufacturers having both ups and downs. The main reason for low recorded sales was mainly due to the heavy monsoon season in the country. However, even with the heavy rains, some manufacturers managed to record an increase in sales in the market. Maruti continues to be at the top, although it recorded a decline in sales in August 2018 as well.
