2018 Detroit Auto Show: New BMW X2 Unveiled
2018 Detroit Auto Show: BMW X2 Unveiled. The all-new BMW X2 features sporty and aggressive styling which is different from the X1.
German automaker BMW has unveiled the all-new X2 small crossover at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. The latest crossover in the BMW's X lineup features sporty and aggressive styling which is different from the X1. The new X2 will go on sale in Europe later this year.
The new BMW X2 is the sportier iteration of the X1, but it misses out on the fastback design of the X4 and X6 models. The small crossover is based on the front-wheel-drive UKL platform, but initially, it will be offered in only one trim, the X2 xDrive28i with an all-wheel-drive system.
Powering the new BMW X2 is the 2-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged engine producing 228bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the front biased all-wheel-drive system.

Technically, the new X2 will be a front-wheel-drive vehicle in normal conditions but will transmit power to all the four wheels when required. For example, if you hit a bad patch of road, the power will be transmitted to all the four wheels accordingly. Thanks to the all-wheel-drive system, the X2 can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 6.3 seconds.
On the design front, the new X2 is far more stylish and sportier than the X1. The crossover is sharper and sits low and looks dynamic with its aggressive styling. Other prominent highlights of the new X2 are the inverted Kidney grilles and the BMW roundel on the C-pillar, which reminds of the classic BMW coupes.
The standard features on the BMW X2 include SensaTec seats, a seven-speaker audio system, and 18-inch alloys wheels. The Convenience package will come with additional features such as electrically operated mirrors, a panoramic roof, auto-dimming mirrors, lumbar support, and much more.
The BMW X2 will be offered with additional electronic driving aids in the Driver Assistance Package. The top-of-the-range M Sport X trim of the X2 will be equipped with an aggressive body kit, 19-inch alloy wheels, lowered suspension, sport calibration for the gearbox, M steering wheel and M rear spoiler. BMW will also offer a front-wheel-drive variant of the crossover at a later stage.

The small crossover segment is becoming extremely popular in the global automotive market. Now, BMW has come up with its sporty looking X2 crossover with aggressive design and compact dimensions. The four-wheel-drive crossover will go on sale later this year and will rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, and Audi Q3.
