The Gods Were Not Pleased — BMW 5 Series Catches Fire Amidst Sacred Rituals

The rather shocking incident happened in the city of Yangzhou, Eastern China, on Tuesday. As per reports, the owner of the new G30 BMW 5 Series (supposedly 530i) and his wife were performing some sacred rituals to thank the Gods for being able to afford the car. But little did they know they were inviting bad luck.

While doing religious rituals after buying a car is a common practice in most parts of the world, this Chinese couple acted a bit careless. They used joss sticks (incense sticks) as tall as an adult human as the fire source.

It took only a matter of minutes for the front end of the car to engulf in flames. The car was charred beyond repair.

It was also too late by the time the fire department arrived. The couple, in the meantime, repeatedly claimed that they do not know the reason why the fire spread.

Though there has not been a clear answer as to how the fire started, the fire department suspects that the couple put flaming substances on a cloth and placed it on the car's bonnet. They also shared that further investigations will be carried out on the same.

If that is indeed the case, the couple was clearly not thinking straight. On top of all, the owner paid half a million Yuan (around Rs 53 lakh) to buy the car. The price is comparatively on the higher due to the high import duties in China.

In India, the BMW 5 Series is available in three variants: 520d, 530d and 530i. Prices for the models range from Rs 52 - 53.8 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). To know more about the BMW 5 Series in India, check out the link below:
