Audi e-tron Electric SUV Hits Production — A Strong Statement To The New Mercedes-Benz EQC?

Audi aims to officially unveil the e-tron SUV on September 17. Rumours suggest that the final name of the SUV could be different. Audi titles every electric product of theirs as ‘e-tron' and the name — e-tron SUV — sounds quite generic.

Though an official statement is yet to come regarding performance figures, some trusted sources have shared that the new e-tron SUV will come with a dual-motor setup, coupled to a 95kWh Li-ion battery.

The battery can charge the five-seater EV from empty to almost full in just 30 minutes, thanks to the first-in-market 150kW DC fast-charging. To put this in perspective, a Tesla Supercharger offers only 120kW charging power.

The Audi e-tron develops 355bhp and 361Nm of torque from its electric powertrain, under normal driving conditions. Meanwhile, a ‘boost' mode bumps up the figures to 408bhp and 664Nm for almost eight seconds.

The all-electric Audi can do a 0-100km/h run in less than six seconds, till it tops out at 200km/h (electronically limited). Range, on the other hand, stays at around 500 kilometres.

Of course, being an electric vehicle, the e-tron SUV comes with regenerative braking. The braking unit in the e-tron SUV, in particular, can recover almost 30 per cent of the total range while also reducing the braking distance by up to 20 per cent.

The Audi e-tron SUV comes with some cool tech and gadgets including the optional ‘virtual mirror technology'. The system uses cameras to show what's happening behind, rather than making do with actual mirrors. The interiors will also look apart from the rest of its competition in typical Audi fashion.

Sources also suggest that the new Audi e-tron SUV will bear a ‘55' badge just like in the regular internal combustion engined products. This is to maintain an even naming system in the portfolio. But to be honest, the new variant-naming system of Audi models is just strange and confusing.

The automotive market is welcoming more and more electric vehicles from key players of the industry. Audi's primary rivals have already unveiled their electric products to the world with some bold claims. In fact, Mercedes-Benz recently showcased the EQC electric SUV; a fitting rival the premium Audi e-tron SUV. Manufacturers have done enough research to forecast a booming market for electric vehicles in the near future and for the same reason, we can expect more such products soon.
