Tata Nexon AMT: Key Details You Should Know
Tata Nexon AMT features explained
Tata Motors launched the Nexon in September 2017 in the booming SUV market in India, which is currently led by the successful Maruti Brezza.
When the home-grown automaker decided to develop the Nexon concept to a production model, the company decided to retain most of the styling of the concept.
The Tata Nexon was showcased for the first time at the 2014 Auto Expo and visitors wondered if it will make it to production as the design grabbed the attention of the Indian buyers. Again in 2016 Auto Expo, the company unveiled a closer look at what could be the production model.

Now, the company is gearing up to launch the Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) version of the Nexon. So what could we expect from a vehicle which is already commanding two months of waiting period?
Here are the key specification and features you should know about the Tata Nexon AMT.

Tata Nexon AMT Gearbox
The most important change to the AMT version of the Tata Nexon is the gearbox. Tata Motors is developing a segment-first 6-speed AMT gearbox. This is the same 6-speed manual gearbox which does its duties on the manual variant of the Nexon.
Tata Motors and Magnetti Marelli have collaborated to develop the AMT gearbox for all the Tata vehicles. We expect the 6-speed AMT gearbox on the Nexon to be robust. Unlike a 5-speed gearbox, the 6-speed transmission will help the Nexon offer better ride and handling while cruising at top speeds.
Tata Nexon AMT Variant
The Nexon AMT will be available in the top variant XZ+ and will be known as XZA in the compact SUV. Even the Tata Tiago AMT is offered on the top trim with the XZA badge, so we expect the company to follow the same with the Nexon as well.
Since the Nexon AMT will be available in the top trim level, the compact SUV will come with loaded features; this include dual-tone exterior colour, rear parking sensors, roof rails, grey "X-factor" accents on the rear fascia, shark fin antenna, dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps and body coloured door handles.
Tata Nexon AMT Price
With an introductory and aggressive pricing of Rs 5.85 lakh for the petrol model and Rs 6.85 lakh for the diesel model of the manual variant of the Nexon, Tata Motors has undercut some of its competitors.
We expect the price of the Tata Nexon AMT XZA trim to be in the range of Rs 8 to 9 lakh for the petrol and Rs 9.5 to Rs 10 lakh for the diesel model. However, Tata Motors could surprise, as it has always been, with a competitive pricing.
Tata Nexon AMT Specifications
The petrol and diesel engines currently on the manual variant of the Nexon will continue to power the AMT model as well. The Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 108.5bhp and 170Nm of torque, and the 1.5-litre diesel unit develops 108.5bhp and 260Nm of torque.
DriveSpark Thinks!
If Tata Motors offers the Nexon AMT in the petrol model, which the Maruti Brezza misses out, then the company will be able to capitalize the absence of a petrol Brezza with an AMT gearbox option.
