Skoda is developing a new affordable small car for the developing markets such as India.
Czech carmaker Skoda is a premium player in the Indian market. But now, the automaker is planning to enter the entry-level segment in the developing markets.
Yes, Skoda is developing a new affordable small car for the developing markets such as India. Despite ending the collaboration with Tata Motors, Skoda is exploring new options.
Currently, Skoda has the Citigo small car in the international markets, but it is unlikely to enter the Indian market. The newly developed affordable car is expected to hit the Indian shores in 2020.
Previously, Skoda was retailing the Fabia hatchback in India, but it was discontinued as the facelifted model is based on the Volkswagen group's flexible MQB platform.

Volkswagen Group was planning to develop affordable cars in partnership with Tata Motors, but the talks were not successful between the two companies. Now, Volkswagen is looking for other options.
Recently it was reported that Volkswagen would bring the MQB platform to the small cars. Currently, the Aurangabad plant manufactures the MQB-based models such as the Octavia and Tiguan.
The smaller vehicles are produced in the Chakan facility. Previously, Tata Motors and Volkswagen were planning to use the AMP platform. But the costs to meet the norms were too high, and hence the German automaker considered the MQB platform for India.

Volkswagen Group has no products in the entry-level segment in India. The automaker was planning to join hands with Tata Motors to develop small cars in India. But now as the cooperation has failed, it is considering the MQB platform for small cars. The MQB could bring several small cars to India such as the new Fabia, Golf and the upcoming SUVs.
