Spy Pics: Peugeot 208 Spotted Testing In India
The Peugeot 208 has been spied testing in India as the French carmaker begins its journey back to India.
In January, French carmaker announced that it was returning to India with the help of the CK Birla Group, two decades after it departed India in 1997.
The French carmaker signed two joint ventures with the CK Birla Group which will see it manufacture and sell cars in India. Peugeot also acquired Hindustan Motors which saw it get its hands on the Ambassador brand.
Now, one of the French carmaker's cars has been spotted testing in India by Overdrive as Peugeot starts its quest to get into the Indian market. The car spotted testing is the Peugeot 208, which underwent a facelift back in 2016.
The 208 spotted testing bears the Bluetec badge signalling the presence of one of Peugeot's award winning three-cylinder engines under the bonnet. The 208 sold in Europe is powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that produces 108bhp while consuming less than 4.5-litres of petrol per 100 kilometres (over 22.2km/l).
The test car spotted on Mumbai's roads is expected to be in all likelihood, used for collecting data as reports suggest that Peugeot could follow its French rival Renault and concentrate on bringing more products with an SUV-esque design to India which is currently experiencing a SUV craze like no other.
