Next-Generation SsangYong Rexton Official Sketches Revealed — To Rival Creta & Duster?
SsangYong has revealed the sketches of next-generation Rexton. The production spec model will be revealed at the Seoul Motor show next month.
Korean car manufacturer SsangYong has revealed the official sketches of the new-generation Rexton. The production spec model will be unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show in April 2017.
The next-generation Rexton is based on the LIV-2 Concept showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The new SUV is expected to enter India as a flagship product of Mahindra instead of SsangYong.
The 2017 Rexton has been codenamed as Mahindra Y400 for the Indian market. Taking a closer at the sketches, the Y400 SUV looks muscular with design cues from the LIV-2 concept.
The front end of the SUV features bold grille and bumper and LED daytime running lights. The exterior of the vehicle sports wide wheel arches, muscular lines on the bonnet and large alloy wheels.
The interior of the next-gen Rexton features a 9.2-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and WiFi connectivity and a centre console with all the functional buttons. Other features include passenger seat display, ambient lighting and captain seats.
The 2017 Rexton is based on the ladder-on-frame platform and features an entirely new chassis, and the model is expected to grow in dimension with more cabin space.
The next-gen Rexton is expected to be powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine pumping out 184bhp and 400Nm of torque. The petrol variant is equipped with a 2-litre engine churning out 225bhp. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
Although, Mahindra is yet to confirm the details of the new model. Once launched in India the Y400 is likely to take the XUV moniker in the Indian market. The new SUV will go head on against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa Fe.
