Next-Generation Bugatti Chiron To Be Electrified
Bugatti has revealed that the next-generation Chiron will be electrified.
French supercar manufacturer Bugatti is planning to electrify the next- generation Chiron to enhance the performance. This was revealed by the company's Chief Executive, Wolfgang Durheimer.
Speaking to Autocar, Durheimer said, "Electrification will happen. The next car is a long way from being developed, but the way battery and electric motor technology is moving on - as well as regulations - it seems certain that the next car will be electrified in some way. It will still be too soon for a full electric car, I think - but electrification will happen."
An 8-litre W16 quad-turbocharged petrol engine powers the current-gen Chiron, churning out a massive 1,479bhp and 1,600Nm of torque. The car can sprint from 0-100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds and boasts a staggering power-to-weight ratio of 741bhp per tonne.
Durheimer also said that the Chiron would remain as the pinnacle of mechanical performance without any electrification. He also revealed that the French automaker is also considering a second model, before producing a replacement for Chiron.
With the plans of the second Bugatti model, the production of the next-generation Chiron could be delayed by 20 years. Durheimer also said that the production of the current-gen Chiron would continue for around eight years.
The McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder already feature hybrid technology to deliver hypercar performance. The McLaren P1 is powered by a 3.8-litre bi-turbocharged V8 petrol engine and electric motors. The combined output stands at 903bhp.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The Bugatti Chiron is the pinnacle of supercars with its sheer raw performance. The next-gen avatar of the supercar is at least 20 years away. But with the electric technology, it is likely to beat all the records set by the current-gen Chiron.
