MG Motors, owned by Chinese automaker SAIC is all set to enter the Indian market in 2019. Overdrive reports that the British car maker is likely to introduce the MG3 premium hatchback in India.

The MG3 premium hatchback will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz. The premium hatchback segment is doing well in India and if MG Motors launch the MG3, the rivalry will be fierce.

MG Motors is expected to produce the MG3 in India, but the design and development will be done at the European facility. SAIC has already purchased the Halol plant in Gujarat from General Motors.

The front fascia of the MG3 hatchback features sharp headlamps, L-shape LED daytime running lights and muscular bumper. The large air intake with aggressive design enhances the sporty appeal of the car.

The side profile of the car features floating roof design and blackened A and B pillars. The rear end gets vertically stacked tail lights and roof spoiler. The hatchback also features 16-inch alloy wheels on the top-of-the-range model and ORVMs with integrated turn indicators.

The interior of the MG3 is very basic as compared to its competition, but MG Motors could update the features to compete with its modern rivals. The premium hatchback is likely to draw power from a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 104bhp and 137Nm of torque.
