2017 Frankfurt Motor Show: Mercedes EQA Concept Unveiled
Mercedes has revealed the EQA electric concept car at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has revealed the EQA electric concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
The new Mercedes EQA is the second concept from the Mercedes electric car sub-brand EQ following the EQ concept revealed at last year's Paris Motor Show. The EQA concept is expected to hit the roads in production guise sometime in 2020 as Mercedes pushes forward with its plans to electrify its range.
The new EQA concept shown in Frankfurt is around the size of a current A-Class hatchback coming in at 4,285mm long, 1,810mm wide, 1,428mm tall and has a wheelbase that is 2,729mm long. While the EQA show car is a three-door, the production vehicle is expected to be a regular 5-door hatch.
The EQA is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, which depending on the size of the battery fitted to the car will churn out as much as 268bhp and 500Nm of torque. Mercedes claims that the EQA concept will accelerate from 0-100kph in around 5 seconds and will feature two driving modes: Sport & Sport+.
Battery range for the most economical version of the EQA is around 400 kilometres. Charging up the battery pack can be done via induction or by a regular charging. And with Mercedes working on getting fast charging stations across Europe and the US which the carmaker claims will allow the EQA to extend its range by 100 kilometres in just 10 minutes.
In terms of design, the EQA concept shows off the usual concepty gimmicks with the virtual front grille changes its display depending on which mode the car is running in (Sport+ sees the Panamericana grille seen on the Mercedes-AMG GT R is displayed). The headlights gell well with the grille while the taillights feature spiral like elements that mimic copper wire winded around an electric motor.
