Mahindra XUV500 Petrol Model Under Development
Mahindra is working on the petrol model of the XUV500 SUV.
The flagship model from Mahindra, the XUV500 is currently available only with a diesel engine, and it sorely missed the petrol engine.
As reported by Autocar, the home-grown carmaker is developing a petrol engine for its XUV500. The petrol unit will be based on the same engine block as the mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine.
The power output details have not been revealed yet, though the new 2.2-litre petrol engine will have a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

Also, the upcoming Mahindra XUV500 petrol model will be offered in a new G-spec variant.
Mahindra is currently readying to launch a facelifted XUV500 in the coming months with the same mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine but will have higher power output by 30bhp. The petrol XUV500 will be launched later.
With the launch of the Jeep Compass, the Mahindra XUV500 will have to be priced aggressively to counter the lucrative pricing of the Compass SUV. Mahindra will also offer the petrol model of the Scorpio with the same engine as the XUV500.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Since the Mahindra XUV500 petrol will rival the newly launched Jeep Compass, the company needs to price its flagship XUV500 aggressively to set off the challenge from the Jeep Compass.
The development of the 2.2-litre petrol engine for the SUV is expected to offer better performance.
