Spy Pics: Mahindra TUV 500 (TUV Long Wheelbase) Spotted Testing; Engine Revealed
Spy Pics of the upcoming Mahindra TUV 500 have emerged as the MPV goes through its paces ahead of its debut.
The latest spy pics of the Mahindra TUV 500 (long-wheelbase TUV) as it goes about testing ahead of its debut have revealed a major detail about the engine that will power the new SUV.
The test mule spotted retains the basic tank-like shape of the TUV 300 with its boxy body and the headlamps from up front along with the vertically stacked taillights at the rear. The rear door seems to be missing the spare wheel but the provision for mounting said wheel can be clearly seen as well.
However, the biggest detail revealed by the spied test mule was the engine that will power the new Mahindra. The test mule sports a 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine that complies with BS-IV emission norms.
The engine is the same powerplant found under the bonnets of the Scorpio and XUV 500 sold in the Delhi NCR region. The new engine is expected to be in the same state of tune as the Scorpio with 120bhp on tap instead of the XUV 500's more powerful 140bhp unit.
Mahindra hopes to eat into the sales of the Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga with its new TUV 500 SUV which will feature seven forward-facing seats. Mahindra hopes that the TUV 500's SUV styling along with MPV comfort levels will help draw away car buyers from the Ertiga when the new vehicle launches at the end of the year.
