The era of electric cars has definitely begun in India. But how about high-performance electric vehicles (EVs)? Mahindra & Mahindra who is the only EV manufacturer in India is bringing three new high-performance EVs by 2019-20.
In a report by TimesofIndia.com, Mahesh Babu CEO (chief executive officer) of Mahindra Electric Mobility has confirmed that they will have three new products in the EV segment and they'll be high-performance vehicles.
The most interesting fact is that the three new cars will have top speeds of 186, 150 and 190km/h and can sprint from 0-100km/h in 9, 11 and 8 seconds respectively. As for the range, these cars can travel up to 350, 250 and 300km.
At the 2014 Auto Expo, Mahindra has showcased a concept, the Mahindra Halo, shown in images here, reflects that the company has already begun working on the high-performance electric cars.

Mahindra is fast pacing its development of electric vehicles for India; this comes with the recent announcement by the Indian government that it will sell only EVs by 2030 in the country. However, the Mr Babu also highlighted the need for a robust EV ecosystem including an excellent charging infrastructure.
Currently, the company's EV portfolio include the e2o, eVerito, eSupro and eAlfa mini. Among the three EVs that Mahindra will launch in the coming years is the KUV100 EV, while the other two new EVs will from the SUV and crossover segments.
One of the critical aspects of EVs is the charging time. Mr Babu said they are working on making charging faster. "What would take 1-1.5 hours earlier would now take about 40 mins," he said.

India is on the cusp of moving to complete electric vehicles and Mahindra, and Tata Motors have begun the race to electrification. Now with Mahindra confirming high-performance EVs, not all is lost when it comes to EVs with performance as well and is not just about range.
