Mahindra Plans To Enter The US Car Market With This SUV Brand
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to enter the US car market with the Ssangyong SUVs.
Home-grown automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has recently inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Detroit, USA, in a bid to enter the US market.
Now, the Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra has hinted that the company will enter the US car market with its subsidiary SUV brand, the Ssangyong Motor Company.
But Mahindra has said that no timeline has been confirmed to launch products in the US market. Mahindra acquired the South Korean brand in 2011, and the company will soon announce an official statement regarding the US entry when a decision is made.
The newly opened Mahindra manufacturing plant in Detroit will initially produce off-road vehicles, and the same facility will be used to manufacture Ssangyong SUVs as well. The North American market is known for SUVs, and the Ssangyong could be the brand for Mahindra.

Speaking to reporters in Detroit, Mahindra said, "In automotive, as you know, we own Ssangyong motors and the advantage of possibly exploring an American entry through them is that the American consumer by now has developed great respect for the Korean automotive brand thanks to Hyundai and Kia."
Mahindra is a well-known tractor brand in the US and has emerged as the third largest tractor seller in the US market in the past few years. Now, the company is all set to manufacture off-road vehicles which are likely to be launched in 2018.
When asked about manufacturing cars in the US, Mahindra said that the company has no plans as of now. He also said that the company had not finalised the car plans and added that the Mahindra wants to offer products in both on-road and off-road segment.

Mahindra & Mahindra is looking to expand its footsteps in the North American market with the inauguration of the new manufacturing plant. Apart from the off-road vehicles, Mahindra is also expected to launch SUVs which is a popular segment in the US car market. Ssangyong could be the brand which will make more sense due to its existing product portfolio of several SUVs.
