Tata Motors-owned British automaker Jaguar Land Rover is all set to introduce the new naming system for its models starting from 2018.

Tata Motors-owned British automaker Jaguar Land Rover is all set to introduce the new naming system for its models starting from 2018.

Auto Express reports that it has spotted an F-Type prototype with the new naming system, bearing a badge 'P380 AWD'.

It is reported that the P stands for petrol and 380 denotes the power output and AWD is all-wheel-drive. All the JLR models will adopt the new naming system in the coming months.

The entry-level Jaguar F-Type will be named as P300 and the Range Rover Velar will be sold as D180. The top-of-the-range variant of the Velar will be retailed as P380 as it uses the same engine which is employed in the F-Type.

Apart from the petrol and diesel models, the future electric vehicles will also feature the same naming system. The Jaguar I-Pace is set to be launched in 2019 and it could be badged as E400. The hybrid models of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are expected to get H badging.

Recently, Audi has also announced its new naming system. Now, it looks like Jaguar Land Rover is also following the trend. The new badging will make it easier to differentiate between models. The introduction of hybrid and electric vehicles are also a reason for adopting the new naming system.
